Big Data Techniques – 100 Years after Einstein’s Prediction

SQA is thrilled to welcome Professor Duncan Brown from the Syracuse University Gravitational Wave Group.  Professor Brown is part of the team of scientists who detected ripples in the fabric of spacetime called gravitational waves, arriving at the earth from the collision of two black holes in the distant universe. This confirms a major prediction of Albert Einstein’s 1915 general theory of relativity and opens an unprecedented new window onto the cosmos.  This discovery required not only incredibly sensitive instruments to detect the event but sophisticated big data techniques to parse the signal from the interstellar noise.
